Nino kicked at a mound of snow sending the soft powdery stuff flying up against the wooden wall of the cottage. It had been two weeks, two weeks of being away from his master, two weeks of being in the mountains with just Aiba and Sakurai. He had gotten used to the lazy way that they seemed to live. They rarely left the cottage not even to go down to the village, when they did it was only Aiba that went. Supplies were normally brought up by a van with Hirata printed on the side. The driver was a woman in her late forties who seemed to be besotted with both Sakurai and Aiba and on her last visit two days ago her gushing praise had fallen in to include him.

Aiba had told him that she was related to him in some why like he was her great cousin or something. The woman looked at least ten years older than Aiba was and it had confused Nino so much that he had stopped thinking about it. He had tried to play on his games but after half an hour he had lost all interested in it and in the end he had thrown the handset across the room. Sakurai had suggested that he go and play outside with was why he was outside staring at the endless white of the snow. He wanted to hear from his master, he had sent a letter to Jun after the first week but he hadn’t had a letter back and his heart was sore.

There was a soft crunching behind him and he turned to see Aiba walking towards him wearing cropped trousers and a t-shirt as if it was a hot summer’s day, reminding him that no matter how he appeared Aiba wasn’t human. Around his neck was a tiny, pure white fox with a pair of bright blue eyes as soon as they got close enough the fox leapt from Aiba and into Nino’s arms his nose rubbing up against his face

“Satoshi is still in love with you, ne?” Aiba joked referring to the little spirit fox in his arms. Nino knew that it was a spirit fox and that Aiba had rescued him a long time ago. He didn’t often come to the house but for some reason whenever Nino was staying the fox appeared and was all over him. Jun had hated it being all over him but Nino found it cute and had named him Satoshi although Aiba had told him that he already had the name Ohno. “Nino-chan…Can we speak to you?” Aiba asked softy and Nino nodded looking up at the older man

“Have I done something wrong, Aiba-san?”  He asked with a nervous lilt to his voice as he stroked the foxes head and Aiba quickly shook his head.

“No, of course not don’t worry, Nino-chan, we just need to talk…” Aiba said brightly “You can bring Satoshi…”

The fox didn’t seem to want to let him go anyway and it curled around his neck his three tails curling around his chin as he gave a yawn before settling down and letting out a snore. Nino giggled as the tiny puffs of breath washed over him. Aiba laughed his bell like laugh ringing around the hills as they walked into the house. Sakurai was standing against a wall his arms folded across his chest.

“Nino-chan…I received a letter from Jun-kun today… He said that he was sorry that he didn’t answer you… But…Last week he had a visit, from Him… The person that is after you…” Aiba said carefully after they had sat down and Nino felt his blood run cold in his veins.

“What? Is he okay? What happened?” Nino shouted his voice waking the fox who looked up at him with one eye and rubbed his cheek against him trying to calm him.

“He’s fine Nino, he’s just tired…But he told me to ask you not to send anymore letters to him…”

“What but…He doesn’t want me anymore does he?” Nino whispered scratching the fox demon’s ear and Aiba held up his hands quickly making a soft protest before saying quickly

“Of course he does but…The…Thing that’s after you…He’s very bad, Nino-chan…He’s the devil…”

“Master told me that…” Nino nodded nearly giggling when the fox licked his cheek, but his worry for master stopped him and he half pushed the fox away to look at him.

“Yes but…I don’t think that you understand…He wants you, we don’t know why you’re so important to him but he wants you… Jun-kun protected you by binding you to him but the truth is Jun-kun, he can only resist for so long and already he is starting to crumble…” Aiba told him gently his hand going to his shoulder and Nino flinched his body tensing.

“But…But Master he wouldn’t let anybody hurt me…”

“Yes, that’s why he sent you here…Why he’s used so much of his magic to keep this place safe for you…I’m only a half demon, Nino-chan…I’m unimportant to Him…So…He doesn’t have the same power over me that he has over Jun-kun…You see because I’m nothing to him that means that I can resist him more, its weird but it works…”

“So…That’s why…” Nino mused softly looking at the beautiful half demon and Aiba smiled nodding as he tentatively patted his hand his long fingers brushing over the skin and Nino tried to smile but failed when his heart pricked with pain

“That’s why you were sent here…Jun-kun would have sent you to any part of the world to keep you safe but…”

“I owed him a life debt and he called it in…” Sakurai put in now, detaching himself from the wall and stepping out of the shadows. It was almost funny that the human acted more like a demon than the half-demon did. Nino thought about that and then looked at Aiba who grinned, showing off his straight white teeth. He hadn’t anything more about Sakurai’s claim that he had killed Aiba at some point but a strange feeling was washing over him and he asked in a whisper

“My master saved Aiba-san?” 

“Yes…And he made me swear a life debt to him…” Sakurai nodded sharply his arm going around Aiba’s shoulders

“That’s how we became friends!” Aiba said cheerfully and he looked as though his death wasn’t as horrifying to him as it was too his husband. “But we told Jun-kun that even without the life debt we would have taken you! We love you, right Sho-chan?”

“Yes, of course…” Sakurai nodded the affirmative and gave him one of his rare warm smiles. “I can promise you that we would have done it…It’s just that with the blood bound of the life debt I really can’t tell anybody that you’re here…Even if they tried to force me…”

“Nino-chan, this…Thing that is after you…He can look like anybody that He wants too…He could look like a woman if He wanted too…He very rarely uses the same appearance more than once…” Aiba said softly “If He did…If He had a fixed face He wouldn’t be as hard to fight ne? We would know what he looked like and it would be ‘zip’…We could resist him…”

“But why…Why does He want me?” Nino asked staring at his new ‘guardians’ his eyes shining with concern. It was the one part the story that he didn’t understand when his master had told it to him. Why would he be wanted by someone like that? He wasn’t anybody important or powerful.

“We don’t know that Nino-chan, we’ve been trying to find out…But…Nothing…Nada…It seems that he just wants you to hurt you…And to maybe hurt Jun-kun too…” Aiba mused thoughtfully and the sound of that caused Nino’s ears to spark with interest and he leant towards the half demon scraping his lips over his lips

“Why would he want to hurt master?” Nino asked playing with one of the fox’s tails and Aiba gave a sigh his fingers brushing through his hair

“There’s a rumour… It’s just a rumour… That Jun-kun rejected him…”

That's interesting, all this because Jun rejected him...? If that's true he must have wanted Jun real bad.
And kyuuuuuu, Satoshi the fox is so cute, I want to cuddle up with it too!! <3 I can just imagine how adorable he would look wrapped around Nino, hehe~
