“Satoshi…”

“Yeah?” The older man hummed not looking up from his fishing rod and somehow managing to give a little boost of confidence to the watching youth who swallowed down a nervous lump from his throat and whispered;

“Is there a way to…Show somebody…That…That you’re grateful to them?”

“There are lots of ways, you can send flowers, paint them a picture, write a letter maybe…Why do you have somebody that you want to thank?”

“Si…Jun…I want to thank him…” Nino whispered his cheeks burning as he remembered his failed attempt at thanking Jun last night. He had wanted to do something nice but the words had gotten stuck in his throat. Jun was everything that he had given up hoping for a long time ago and he honestly didn’t think that he would mind if it was Jun on top of him. His eyes went to the two fish which Ohno had attached carefully to the side of the boat in front of him so he could see them his heart skimming against his ribs happily as he continued his explanation to the overly patient Ohno “…I tried to thank him last night…But…It…It went wrong…I…Can you help me write a letter?”

“Of course…I’m not very good with spellings though but I’m sure that we can muddle our way through…I’ve got some paper and a pen…No wait…It’s at home…” Ohno hummed with a frown his eyebrows drawing together before he gave a smile “It’s no worry we’ll head back now, the fish don’t seem to be biting and you don’t seem to be enjoying it as much today…The aquarium upset you?”

“A little, Sir…Jun say’s that it happened to him when he went to a farm…He stopped liking eating meat a little but he got over it”

“…I had the same reaction when I first went to the aquarium…I couldn’t fish for about a week but…It’s something that I enjoy…Everybody has an escape…This is mine…” Ohno chuckled with a shrug as he began packing up their rods and tackle and Nino hummed with a nod able to fully understand what he meant. He was more certain of that because he knew that that was what his games has been for him. A way of escaping his life but at the moment his life felt calmer than it ever had done meaning that he hadn’t needed to play it even though he had told Jun that he would.

“Mine is video games…” He mumbled and Ohno gave a sort half nod, half laugh at his answer moving around to the steering wheel of the boat and switching on the ignition. The engine started up smoothly and soon they were moving back to shore while Ohno hummed;

“What kind of games do you like or would you like me to guess?”

“Guess…”

“Hmmm…I think you like action and role play games…A lowly stable boy or peasant finds out that they are the destined hero from legends of old…”

“…Good guess…” Nino whispered in surprise and Ohno gave a chuckle reaching over and ruffling his hair.

“Jun used to read the ‘Choose your own adventure’ books...Which are similar…You read a page and at the end you have to make a choice…I think he cheated in places…He always wanted the happy ending…” Ohno told him and Nino could almost picture a younger Jun reading through the books and re-reading them to make sure he got a good ending. “I have a few of them if you’d like to try…They’re in Japanese so don’t worry…”

“Okay…But you’ll help me…”

“With your letter…Of course I will…We also have to pick out where you and Jun are going tomorrow…”
