Masaki laughed happily as he was swung around by his husband the music flowing over them. Neither of them were following the steps of the dancers on the floor but he was sure that he was having the most fun. When he was thoroughly dizzy he was swung back into the muscled body and together they kicked up their feet marching across the floor in a strange jig. He was confident that people would be staring at them but he didn’t care he was as happy as he had been at his wedding feast, even more so when he looked up and saw that Jun had not left Kazu’s side since they had walked into the ballroom. He had been left uncertain when he had had his conversation with the prince, he felt that Jun should have shown even more than he felt to Kazu, but now he saw quite clearly that whatever Jun was doing was working for them. Kazu was smiling shyly but happily as he stayed with his husband though his eyes were straying over to Lady Kazuko who was talking to the queen.

“You seem much happier today my love…” Sakurai purred against his ear and Masaki nodded grinning happily.

“I am…I can still feel your parents staring at me though…” He sighed his eyes flickering over to the pair who had barely moved from the spot that he had seen them “Why have they not come over?”

“Because they are wanting us to make the first move…” Sakurai explained “If we make them do it we gain the upper hand…As I have no desire to speak to them they will have to come to us…Do you wish to speak to Lady Kazuko, I know that you have been looking at her for a while, or would you like to continue dancing?”

“…I would like to rest for a moment but Lady Kazuko is speaking to the queen…” Masaki mumbled his eyes going back to the queen who was looking tired and much older than when he had last seen her on a few short weeks ago. Her hair was covered with a plain lace covering. Sakurai wrapped his arm around his and led him off of the dancefloor walking him towards the pair of women saying gently;

“I am sure that she would be delighted to talk to you…” Masaki didn’t say another word as he was led closer and closer to his father’s lover. The two women turned to look at them as they approached them and both gave bright smiles. Kazuko’s was even wider than Aurora’s and she came towards him her hands holding onto his tightly. Masaki allowed his eyes to search the woman’s face noting that her eyes were deeply shadowed and behind the smattering of make-up that was on her face she was paler than he had ever seen her.

“Masaki…It has only been a few weeks but I have missed you so much…You look so happy…Then of course you would be…Hello Lord Sakurai…” She breathed dipping a very small curtesy in the direction of his husband who bowed back smiling as he bowed at the queen before offering his hand asking;

“Your majesty may I have the honour of the next dance…?”

“Of course, my lord, it had been a long time since we shared a dance…” She giggled taking the hand allowing Sakurai to lead her away giving Masaki and Kazuko to talk. Masaki was surprised at how alone they were here even though all around them there were people. Kazuko gave a very small laugh and pressed her hand to his cheek as she asked;

“Is everything okay?”

“Kazu showed me your letter…” He blurted out before he could stop himself and the woman tensed for a moment before smiling sadly her eyes going over to Kazu who was being led around by Jun.

“Ah, I see…” She sighed slowly her dropping down to her side again “I wondered why my son has not come to speak with me…I am sorry, Masaki…”

“Lady Kazuko…” Masaki squeaked grabbing his hand squeezing it tightly “There is no need for you to apologise, I understand…I hope that you were happy with him…”

“I was...Very happy...” She answered with a faraway look in her eyes for a few moments before she tensed looking over his shoulder and without looking Masaki knew that lord Ninomiya was striding towards them and quickly he asked;

“Shall we dance?”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Kazu stayed happily against the warmth of his husband using him as a shield against the rest of the guests that were in the ballroom. There were so many faces around him that he had stopped separating them in his mind. The whole ball had already been a lot more pleasant than his wedding feast and it had only been half an hour since it had started. He knew that most of that feeling was simply because Jun was at his side. His husband had kept his word and not left him for even a moment.

“Are you enjoying yourself, husband?” Jun asked now pressing his mouth against his ear and Kazu was surprised to find himself honestly nodding his eyes on the dancers laughing a little when he saw his mother and the queen dancing a set with Masaki and Sakurai. They all looked very together and he was glad when he saw the look on his mother’s face. She had looked worn out when he had first seen her but now she looked the same as she ever had. Kazu felt guilty that they hadn’t spoken to her yet but as soon as the ball had been opened Queen Aurora had swooped down on her cousin and he hadn’t had the heart to disturb them. “Do you wish to dance?”

“…I…No…Thank-you” Kazu spluttered flushing brightly as he shook his head knowing that he had two left feet “I…I…It…”

“It is fine if you do not wish to…” Jun laughed squeezing at his stomach and Kazu had to fight a strange fluttering inside of his stomach. It was completely different from the nervous kind of fluttering but it was enough to make him feel slightly breathless “You were watching the dancing…I thought…”

“I was enjoying Masaki and my mother dancing…” He whispered with a chuckle leaning against his husband. It caused the strange flutters to get worse but he refused to acknowledge them determined that he was going to ruin all the work that he had been doing to fight his nerves “I was thinking that it…It is good to see her happy, I was worried when I first saw her…”

“I was too and I think that mother felt the same…But she is looking well now…” Jun shrugged walking him over to the table in the corner where the drinks were being held. Jun poured them both some punch an unpleasant scowl flickering over his face for a full minute before he growled in low voice “Your father is on his way over…”

“What? Why…I…” Kazu’s hand trembled violently the punch sloshing around in the small golden glass. The fluttering changed from the pleasant strange kind to the sickly nervous kind and he felt bile rise up the back of his throat. He stared down at his shoes breathing deeply through his nose as he clenched his hands around the small glass.

“Head up and focus, sprite…” Jun told him his hand coming to stroke at the back of his neck “I promise that I will not let allow him to do or say anything to you…”

I'm curious about Aiba's talk with Lady Kazuko.
So happy to see Nino using Jun as a shield. It means he really trust his husband, right?
