Kazu smiled weakly as he allowed Jun to help him down onto the cleared wooden garden chair happiness flowing through him as he looked up at his husband who was still holding his hand tightly. It was a very strange feeling to be so at ease around Jun but he had been sick for the last few days and it was impossible to doubt the sincerity of somebody that had rubbed his back and held his hair away from his mouth every time he wanted to empty his stomach. They hadn’t spoken much in his few days of confinement but Jun had read to him gently from books that he had enjoyed hearing from his father as a child and Kazu was convinced that he and his husband had reached a friendship and he was hoping that that would continue now that he was recovered.

“Are you feeling okay, sprite? Tell me if you become too cold…” Jun mumbled in his cold voice, a voice that only a few days ago he was have shook to hear but now he knew that it was simply the tone that Jun used when he was…Uncertain and nervous. Something that he often was when they were alone together. He gave a smile and a nod squeezing the fingers of his husband gently as he encouraged him to sit beside him the white puffs of his breath flowing from his mouth as he spoke.

“I will, thank-you husband…”

“You…Do not need to thank me over something I am happy to do…” Jun almost growled dropping down onto the chair beside him so hard that it rocked it slightly “More so when it is my fault you were sick…”

“I thought the doctor referred to it as nervous tension…” A soft sleepy voice answered for him and the married pair on the bench turned quickly to see the king and queen walking towards them looking flushed with the chill and excitement that they were feeling “So much has happened it is unsurprising that Kazu would be taken ill…I am glad to see you recovered, I am eager for rematch…”

“I…I will…”

“When you are full recovered…And not a moment sooner my sprite…A game is not worth you sick again…” Jun put in for him squeezing the hand that he still hadn’t let go and Kazu smiled again nodding at him as his cheeks flushed warmly.

“Of course…” He breathed aware that the queen was smiling approvingly at them. Apart from his husband Aurora was the only living soul that he had seen frequently during his illness and he loved how alike she was to his dear mother while she regaled him with stories of Kazuko’s youth. He had been surprised to learn that Kazuko and Masaki’s father had been friends since their childhood and that even Aurora was surprised to learn that they had kept the friendship when she had married his father. It was the worst kept secret in the world at the time that the young farmer had a soft spot for Kazuko but lack of wealth or status had kept them from marrying. The more he heard about his mother’s past and her missed chances for happiness the more his heart ached with pain that she had been trapped so cruelly to his father for so long.

“Sprite…Do you feel unwell again?” Jun asked his cool hand coming to rest on his forehead and Kazu shook his head slowly forcing away his dark thoughts to smile again flushing under the added gaze of the king and queen.

“No…My husband, I was just thinking of my mother…”

“…What a coincidence…” Jun hummed suddenly pulling a small bundle from his great coat and handing it to him with a smile “…I wanted to tell you, your man Yun gave me a letter for you yesterday…”

“Then, we shall leave you in peace, Come my wife we will continue our walk for a little while more…You should both go in soon…The weather will be turning again before you know it…”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"A puppy! We are really getting a puppy?" Masaki shouted bouncing up and down like an over excited puppy himself, his hands clinging tightly to the arm of his husband who was still reading through the letter that had been delivered by a boy from the village. It had been several days since the butler Theodore had left their note in the shop in the village and although he had been assured that there was interest in the note it was only now that they had received some information about a puppy and he couldn’t contain his excitement.

“It would appear that we can go and look at some puppies if you would like…” Sakurai said in a soothing tone trying to calm him down but Masaki knew that he might as well try to catch the wind. His excitement was so high inside of him that he wanted to leave at that very moment and view the puppy but he knew that Sakurai had work that he had to do. Although they were still enjoying their time together reality was encroaching upon them with more and more papers coming into the house each day. It wasn’t a bad thing, it just proved to Masaki how important his husband was, but it was making him feel guilty that Sakurai was having to put off working just to entertain him. “…We can go now…If you would like…”

“…But…You have to work…” Masaki pointed out looking at the haphazard pile that was almost falling to the floor. He had thought that it was bad when they had first arrived back but now the tenant farmers had realised that their lord was back with his husband they had been overwhelmed with papers seemingly flying through the door.

“…These are mostly letters of congratulations, they can be dealt with later when you are happily settled with a cute little puppy…” Sakurai chuckled pushing him towards the door “Go get ready…I will arrange for a carriage, I would suggest we just take the horses but it would be too difficult to bring back a puppy…”

“A puppy…We could really be getting a puppy!” Masaki sang happily running through the corridors towards their bedroom. The guilt was still there in the back of his mind but, he told himself several times, if he had a puppy he could be dealing with training it up while Sakurai was working. The days were getting colder with most of the leaves having already fallen off of the trees but he could see himself running around with a pup at his heel. The image kept his actions quick and light as he hurried to dress in his outdoor clothes and sorted out his hair with the sliver brush from the set Sakurai had given him yesterday. It was a beautiful set and he had protested about it but Sakurai had told him that he wanted to make him happy and that the cost meant nothing to him. He fingered the embossed silver smiling to himself in the mirror wondering how he could have been so lucky to get such an amazing husband.

“Are you ready, my love?” Sakurai asked coming up behind him his reflection coming to join his in the mirror. He was already dressed in his navy blue coat that clung to all of the right places on his body and Masaki wished that he could look that good but he always seemed to look like a matchstick boy in his master’s clothes. Sakurai never saw that in him though, he could tell that from the look that was in his eyes as his arms wrapped around him holding him tight while he whispered “You look so beautiful, my husband…Come on let us go and get your puppy…”

You keep writing about Aiba getting a puppy........well my mom wants to get two bullmastiff puppies soon. One for her and one for me to show. I still need to finish Wyatt but mom had to have Chief fixed for his health. So she has nothing she can show in the ring. I think Diva, my basset, is ready for a friend now. : )

I haven't been commenting lately, but I really love this series, I'm happy that Kazu getting closer with Jun. I amused with Jun's stiff attitude, I will be waiting for the time when he breaks out of his shell :)
