Kazu chewed the breakfast slowly, the normally excellent food tasting like ash in his mouth. His father and brother had come into the breakfast parlour a short time after his mother had given him her rather confusing prediction and the room had fallen into a tense silence that was broken only by the sounds of cutlery on plates and very occasionally Sakurai talking in a low voice to Aiba who giggled once or twice. The pair had always been disgustingly sweet together but now they appeared to be even more so now but Kazu couldn’t be anything but happy for his friend. Masaki had always felt like an outsider here in this house but now he would have one of his own with somebody that treated him like he was the reason the sun rose in the sky.
“It is obvious that those two have consummated their marriage but what about you?” His father asked his voice booming around the silent room and Kazu jumped looking around his knife and fork falling down onto the table shrinking into his husband as he tried to start whispering;
“…Yes…”
“Forgive me sir, but I do not care for your tone when addressing my husband…” Jun growled cutting over Kazu’s very light confirmation. His hand coming down and gripping Kazu’s their fingers linking very briefly. The action was enough to completely startle Kazu though as were the words “I understand that it is your duty to question such things but not in the breakfast room as if you were discussing a dog or a horse…”
“You dare to speak to my father like this? In our own home?” Yuichi spluttered sound like he was choking on his words and Kazu shrank back even further as Jun only seemed to pick up momentum pushing aside his food and getting to his feet. He looked every inch the intimidating prince at that moment dressed in a dark blue, almost black, version of Sakurai’s red coat with tight fitting black breeches and the same boots that went up to his knee that he had worn yesterday. His hair was tied back at the nape and but it was fluffier than it had been yesterday.
“I do, apologise that you may feel that it breaks with politeness but…I have not received a moment of politeness since I have arrived here and I grow tired of your continuous remarks towards my husband” Jun said his hand sliding down to cup at his chin tilting it upwards as he asked in an almost sweet tone “…Kazunari…Are you finished? I think that we should make a start...”
“I…Yes...My husband…” Kazu said quickly relief flooding through his system as he got to his feet staring down at his mother noticing that she was smiling a little behind her hand while both his father and brother looked furious their faces matching with unpleasant snarls.
“Then we will take our leave of you all her…My lady Kazuko, you only have shown any kindness to both me and my husband please know that you are very much welcome within my home whenever you desire…”
“I thank-you, prince…I would be honoured to call when I am able…” Kazuko said softly bowing her head and Kazu knew that it would be many years before he saw her again or maybe never at all “But I feel that you and my son will need some time to adjust to each other…”
“Indeed madam…” Jun nodded and Kazu was surprised when a hand came around him again and he was pulled into his husbands side “Sho…”
“Masaki and I will be leaving as well…” Sakurai murmured getting to his feet with Masaki moving so quickly and in sync with him it was like they were attached on pieces of string.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Masaki followed his husband out of the breakfast room relieved that the prince had defended his friend in the way that he had. He had been worried when the pair had first come into the room as Nino had looked empty and devoid of life in his face. He had also been overly jumpy and Masaki had found himself getting angry thinking that Jun had taken his anger out on his friend last night but now he wasn’t sure what was happening. They would be travelling together for the next two days so he hoped that there would be chance to talk to his friend before they were to separate. From what Sakurai had said the prince and Nino would be turning off and heading for the main city to see the king who had been unable to attend the wedding much to his disappointment.
“What are you thinking about?” Sakurai asked softly as they made their way back to his bedroom to make sure that all their belongings were packed away. He was sure that the staff had gone in as soon as they had woken up but there were a few things that he had kept hidden, letters from Sakurai that had been sent over the years and he still treasured, he would hate to lose them. He smiled tucking himself against his husband rubbing his chin against him as he answered honestly;
“The king…”
“The king?” Sakurai said sounding surprised “Why?”
“I was just wondering if he was disappointed not to attend the wedding…”
“I think the correct term was he threw a tantrum and sulked for a week…” Sakurai snorted loudly and Masaki gave a shocked gasp his mouth dropping open as he tried to imagine the king, the ruler of the entire country, acting like a spoiled child. “The rumours about him favouring Jun…But…Not in the way that lord Ninomiya does…It is hard to explain…I think that with the King’s lack of daughters Jun fulfilled that role…”
“And now he is a spoilt brat…He did something to Nino…” Masaki’s eyes narrowed a little as he looked at his friend noticing that he had started to hang back away from Jun his head bowed. His steps had started to shuffle.
“I will talk to Jun when I can…” Sakurai told him sounding just as concerned as he was. It was a horrible reflection of what his marriage could have been like if he hadn’t been so fortunate. “Masaki…Please…Do not worry…You heard him…I think that Jun does care…It is just…He…Has his reasons for…This marriage was not his idea any more than it was your friends…”
“Then…Why?” Masaki asked his eyebrows knitting together as he wondered why the prince would have to marry against his will.
“For the same reason that Kazu married…He is the last son…The spare…” Sakurai shrugged his hand moving up and down his back and Masaki’s pout grew even further.
“But he is the king’s favourite…”
“Which caused even more problems…The royal family are not like the Ninomiya’s but they need the political advantage that marriage can cause…” Sakurai explained pushing him gently into his room before continuing “My own father offered me as a marriage mate for the prince when he learned our tastes ran the same way…But…I already in love with you…”
“…Your father would have approved of that marriage?” Masaki’s heart plummeted sadly his happiness at his marriage leaving him at that small utterance. He might have found somebody that loved him but it wasn’t the family that he had longed for.
“Yes…But that does not matter…I love you and now I am married to you…That is perfect for me and now we are to leave for our home…Make sure your belongings have been packed I have no desire to ever return to this house…”
“Yes…My husband…”

Date: 2014-10-20 11:08 am (UTC)But... I wonder why isn't Nino as well.
Somehow, I guess he has a very hurt personality... He seems to see everything through the wrong side, mostly when it involves himself.
With that father, would be no wonder, right?
