“So where are we going for this dinner?” Nino asked as he tugged at the tightly fastened shirt round his neck undoing the top button and dodging out of the way when Jun tried to fasten it again. Doubting that there was anywhere in Nottingham that was worth him getting dressed up. He wasn’t even sure where Jun had managed to find the black suit and shirt that he was wearing because he knew that he hadn’t packed one nor, if he thought about it, had Jun but he they were dressed up to the nines and feeling like a spare part as he sank into the sofa.

“Colwick Hall…” Jun answered with a hum flicking his eyes to Maria who gave a nod and a small smile as she smoothed down the sides of the deep blue dress that she was wearing which caused her eyes to stand out like jewels under the dark eyelashes. Sachiko was also dressed up in a dress that clung to her curves and showed off more cleavage than she had with a slight plunged neckline.

“I managed to get my brother to get us a table…” Maria said allowing Sachiko to fluff out her hair.

“Oo do you think we’ll see the ghost of the white lady?” Sachiko asked and Nino groaned, what was it about this city and every building apparently being haunted? He wondered glaring at his friend and waiting for the explanation that he knew was about to come. “The white lady was a young woman that was forced to marry the lord of Colwick…On their wedding night she refused to sleep with him so he raped her and locked her in her bedroom, completely horrified by what had happened to her she threw herself out of the window in the hopes that it would kill her. Unfortunately she only broke both her legs so she dragged herself to the lake and threw herself in. Her husband didn’t find her for a week and her corpse was all bloated…Her ghost wonders the halls of Colwick hall…”

“Shouldn’t it be crawls? If she broke both her legs…” Nino interjected with a frown refusing to acknowledge the shiver that was creeping up his spine.

“She’s only one ghost…There are others…The old butler…He haunts the east wing where we are about to have dinner…Tell them ‘Ria…” Sachiko asked her wife jubilantly. Jun smiled at him his hand trailing up and his thigh.

“My grandma told me this story…” Maria started as they walked out to the taxi that had just pipped them “It’s what happened when she used to work at the hall as a silver service waitress, she was setting up the long table in the east wing for a party of lord and one of the old princess’s, she had put out all of the plates and knives and forks and then gone back to the cupboard, which is still in the room, for glasses when she came back out all of the plates had been piled up into the centre of the table with the centre pieces on top of them and the knives and forks placed neatly into the bread basket…”

“That kind of thing only happens in movies…” Nino grumbled as he slid into the back of the taxi holding tightly to Jun’s hand. He hated ghost stories he had never been able to handle them even as a child and Sachiko knew that.

[Colwick Hall please] Maria told the driver as she settled into the front seat beside him.

[Righty-o mi duck…] The driver said very pointedly not looking at the inches of thigh that had been revealed when she sat down.

“…Tell them about the moving box…” Sachiko said excitedly bouncing up and down beside them ignoring the click of annoyance from the driver.

“Right my uncle was staying in the hotel and there was this large ottoman at the foot of his bed. When he’d looked inside it he saw that it was filled with sheets and heavy bed curtains…” Maria said while Nino bit down a loud swear cuddling closer to Jun “There was no way that anyone one person could move it. Anyway he got into bed and fell to sleep during the night he heard movement and he saw that the ottoman had been pushed against the door…Because he was so tired he went back to sleep”

“So he could have just dreamt the whole thing?” Jun asked his hand moving up and down Nino’s back while Nino shuddered making a mental note to never stay in the Colwick hall hotel.

“No the next morning the ottoman was against the bathroom door…When he went down to breakfast he mentioned it to the receptionist and she said that the Ottoman used to be in the manager’s office but it kept moving around in there so he had it placed in the room…” Maria finished dramatically turning around to face them with a huge grin on her face "He asked my grandma about that too and she said that all of the staff knew about the ottoman…It was meant to have belonged to the butler…”

“Okay…So all the butler does is move things around?” Nino asked glad that his voice was more confident that he was feeling at that moment.

“Yeah he also follows staff around…He follows them, when they walk from the kitchen to the restaurant with food, stands really close breathing down their necks…” Maria answered with a nod “When I was younger the Hall had been left empty for a few years, I was in the St John’s ambulance and they arranged for us to stay in the north hall…We stayed up all night to see if we could see anything but nothing happened until the next day when we were packing up…I felt a hand on my back and a voice whispering ‘Make sure you don’t forget anything’…When I turned around there was nobody there…All of us there reported a similar thing happening even the youth worker but he was reminded to pick up his socks…”

“Wow…That’s cool…” Jun said with a grin while Nino shot him a glare hitting him playfully in the ribs with his fingers causing him to grunt.

“Cool? You think a haunted hall in the best place for us to give each other the rings?” Nino grumbled the weight of the ring box in his pocket and Sachiko let out a laugh

“The Hall itself is beautiful…And nothing has been reported since the new owners have taken over…” She said reassuringly as the taxi pulled into a pea gravelled drive that led up to a grand country home and Nino had to admit that was beautiful red bricked with large windows he could have learnt about the ghosts after eating and exchanging rings he thought grumpily.

“Colwick Hall dates back to 11th century and was recorded in Domesday Book. It was first owned by Sir Reginal DeColwick.” Maria said slipping easily into teacher mode as the taxi stopped outside a grand entrance “On the death of William de Colwick in 1362, the estate passed by the marriage of his daughter Joan, into the Byron family which they inhabited for more than 150 years. They held it until about 1660, when it came into the possession of the Musters. All the older buildings disappeared when the present Hall was erected in 1775-6, soon after the coming-of-age of John Musters; he was the father of the husband of Lord Byron's 'Mary.' There is a famous painting by George Stubbs of John and Sophia Musters riding at Colwick showing the newly built hall in 1777…”

“Sus’s…They’re here to eat not buy it my sweet…” Sachiko laughed as they piled out of the taxi. Maria blushed as a small guilty smile filled her face as she shrugged her shoulders and muttered

“Sorry…” before paying the taxi driver and taking her wife’s arm in her own guiding her up to the entrance. Nino shot a bemused look at Jun and then held out his hand. The ghosts in the galleries had seen them pleasure each other the ghosts in the hall could see them exchanging words of love.

TBC

A/N: All of the ghost stories in this are true…the witnesses are my grandma, my uncle and myself…There is another one that my brother saw about the white lady which is really nice but that will be in the next part along with another more unpleasant story that connects to the Galleries of Justice…Wow…I’m sorry this has become a ghost tourism guide to Nottingham ne >.< There will also be the exchanging of the rings in my favourite place in the park J Please don’t let the ghost stories put you off coming I swear the hotel and the park is beautiful we used to spend almost every day of summer there swimming in Westlake when I was younger J

Colwick Hall is beautiful, would love to visit someday.
Can`t wait for the exchange of rings (and the ghost story) but I'm curious to know what Jun has bought.

I could not see the update yesterday but I was sad to hear that your aunt is sick, I hope she feels better and recovers quickly.

It's taken me a while to catch up but I wanted to let you know how much I've been loving this fic. I really, really love how you've captured the "grown-up" Nino/Jun relationship. They're sweet but human.

You've got a great way with characters. :)

Thank you for writing! I don't comment every time but I am reading. :)))
