"As would have been announced at the feast yesterday, I am Kazunari Ninomiya; I will be your defence against the dark arts teacher for this year..." Nino told the pale faces of his first year class the next morning. It was his first class of the day of his career at Hogwarts He wasn't worried about his English he had a spell that made him able to speak any language he wanted flawlessly so it took him a moment to work out what they were gaping at. He glanced over his shoulder and saw his postal bird; Arashi perched on the edge of the table look out at the class with a smug look on his proud orange face. The bird was looking magnificent with his almost purple plumage and tail feathers that spilled down over the desk to reach the floor "This is Arashi he's a Raicho…Can anyone…”
"Yes sir, a Raicho or thunder bird is a majestic bird that can mimic the sound of thunder..." A girl with slightly bushy hair said bouncing up and down in her seat and Nino flicked his eyes down to the chart that the headmaster had given him that morning at the staff meeting that he had only caught the end of.
"Correct...Miss Weasley" Nino said with a nod a small smile, wondering if she was related to one of the golden trio, the boy next to her with messy black hair and green eyes reminded him of the pictures that he had seen of the famous Harry Potter after the war so that had to be his son Albus and the almost white blonde haired boy with pale features could only be his ‘twin’ brother, Scorpius. A glance at the chart saw that he was right Albus Malfoy-Potter and Scorpius Malfoy-Potter. Nino shrugged his shoulders in a way that wouldn’t draw the attention of the nervous first years who would have thought that after the war Harry would have settled down with his rival and had two children, with the aid of a very willing surrogate, not even Hogwarts famous hat could have predicted that. The twins were as different as chalk and cheese but if the way they were looking at each other they were very close. He gave a hum stroking the bill of the bird until it gave a bone chilling sound which echoed around the classroom. “They normally look like a rook and are a very dull brown colour but mine is half phoenix... So he likes to show off…Anyway…He will come up in our future classes but for now…Open your books to page 82”
The class was long slow and completely mundane with the exception of the Potter-Malfoy’s and Weasley girl none of the first years showed any real promise for the subject. Those three it was only to be expected as the girl seemed to have swallowed an entire text book while the twins had more natural ability than he had ever seen before and it was possible that he would have to look more into their conception than he would have hoped for.
The next few classes were a little better but it was a class of year fives and sixes and sevens where he was actually allowed to show off some of his magic. He ate lunch in his rooms and then there was another round of lessons with first years and he was glad when it came time for dinner and he hurried to the great hall when he finally found it he noticed that all the house tables were full and there was only one seat left at the teachers table.
The seat was next to a man in his forties wearing all black and he had shoulder length hair that swept over his shoulders. He smelt thickly of strong herbs and spices mixed together some people hated the smell that came from years of working with potions but Nino loved it. To him it was a warm and beautiful scent that instantly made him think back to his childhood, of summers in the mountains with his great grandfather and brother.
“I am Severus Snape, potions master…” The man said coolly as Nino sat and he didn’t even bother to say that it was pointless. It was of course, he would have recognised the potions master anywhere he had, after all, devoured every newspaper article that had featured him. Not in a strange creepy way but because he, like the rest of the wizarding world, had been moved by the story Potter had told and wanted to know how he had survived being bitten the one of the deadliest snakes known to mankind. He had to resist every instinct he had to not flick his eyes to the neck to see the scar.
“Nice to meet you professor, I’m Ninomiya Kazunari…Ah sorry that would be Kazunari Ninomiya over here wouldn’t it? Sorry…My spell makes it possible to speak English but I still mix things up…” Nino muttered hating the fact that he was rambling when the potions master gave him an extremely blank expression, his black eyes seemingly boring into his soul and Nino wondered if it was true that the older man was a skilled Legilimens like the stories said. Even that was true Nino didn’t even bother to put his shields up if he did he would only cause the other teacher to become suspicious and there was no way that he wanted to offend one of the greatest hero’s the wizarding world has ever seen. Besides it’s not like he had anything to hide, he was being completely honest to McGonagall about his reasons for being here.
“Why are you here?” Snape asked suddenly proving the books right about him being a skilled Legilimens. Nino gave a shrug and flashed a sheepish smile combing his hair with his fingers
“I have no idea professor…The school called to me and I answered…” he answered looking around the great hall with a sigh wishing that the magical ceiling would spell out the answer to why he was here. So far in between his lessons he had wondered around a little nearly getting lost a few times and wishing to merlin that he had a map when he had found himself inside a cupboard.
“You are an empath?” Snape said with just enough sneer in his voice to show how he felt about that little branch of magic and Nino felt sorely disappointed. He was about to tell him to just read his mind but he stopped himself reminding himself that Snape was a hero and true Empathic psychics was a very rare form of magic.
“…Yes…” He said with a nod somehow managing to not lose his smile. He had read so much about the man in front of him that he really didn’t want to offend or belittle him in any way.
“But surely that does not extend to buildings…” Snape muttered in a way that that said ‘For now I may choose to believe that you have that kind of ability but I will not accept that you can read buildings…’ Nino didn’t blame him. Even among fellow Empath’s he was a little bit of an oddity but he had always been able to do it. Magic buildings were the best but even muggle ones could seep in the emotions that their owners left behind.
“Buildings are alive with the people that live in them professor, but Hogwarts is one of the most alive buildings that I have ever had the pleasure of being in…” Nino explained softly hoping that the potions master wouldn’t probe him much further on the subject the more he did the more he could feel Snape’s opinion of him slipping.
“So you can read my emotions? What am I feeling?” Snape asked in a scoffing tone and Nino sighed closing his eyes. He had to shut out all of the other emotions that were seeping from the students, seriously did kids just think about sex all the time? Then there was the tiredness and almost boredom that was coming the other teachers around them before he finally found Snape’s signature and the gentle feel of his emotions. They were the most closed off emotions that he had ever felt but soon he began to tease them out one by one
“Disbelief…Mistrust...And just the tiniest hint of… lust…” Nino said with surprise his eyes flickering open again as his smile getting wider as Snape gave a hiss rising from his chair turning on his heel with flap of a black cape making him look like a beautiful raven about to take flight. Snape must have caught the edge of his thought as he turned and scowled at him again before once more striding in between the tables.
Nino rolled his eyes the barest of smiles playing on his lips as he sipped the pumpkin juice trying not to gag at the taste, deciding that he would much prefer Nettle Tea. Just as he was about to summon some from the kitchen the ceiling lit up with a white blinding flash. Nino, along with the rest of the great hall looked up and Nino was stunned to see the words ‘HELP ME’ written clearly in white clouds. “Now that is really dramatic…”

Date: 2013-04-26 10:05 am (UTC)As for The Lord of the rings I can promise that the books are infinitely greater than the films, I'm still refusing to watch the hobbit on protest, They changed the books so much for LOTR that I can't see them improving for that one and I'm completely baffled how he's managing to stretch it out for three films when he crammed the whole of the epic majesty and beauty that was the LOTR in to just three and somehow managed to b*lls up the characters and story...and still win awards... Eep sorry >.< that was a little ranting ne ^\\\^ sorry, I'm a book snob and a complete nerd also very passionate about the LOTR >.<
I hope you'll enjoy them all when you get the chance to read them xD
