Nino’s eyes almost bulged out of his head as he heard that, his first instinct was to laugh until his sides hurt, his second was to break down into tears and say yes. But it was never going to happen the only way he would get away from his father would be when he was married off, more than likely to one of his father’s business colleagues. He wanted so much to say yes, it had started out as blackmail, nobody had ever cared for him the way Jun obviously did. He couldn’t understand what he had done to deserve so much devotion. He thought that he should be angry that he had been tricked the way that he had been but, as last night’s memory continued to return, he knew that Jun had taken so much care of him.

“J…” He said softly feeling sick even though his head was throbbing behind his eyes and he was about to rub his temples but Jun’s fingers were already there rubbing them in gentle circles “What…What are you doing?” He asked not batting the hands away but staring into the other teenagers face

“If you move in…I promise that I’ll take care of you…” Jun said his voice husky with emotions that he had only ever heard on TV and in films. He had never heard that type of tone directed towards him before and his cheeks went a strange shade of red. He allowed the fingers to work for a while, enjoying the sensation that was spreading out through his body. “Sweetheart…”

“Jun…That isn’t going to happen…” Nino muttered pulling away from him slowly aware that Jun tensed and nervously Nino reached out stopping halfway from grabbing his hand “I can’t even bring myself to imagine my father’s face if I suddenly said I was leaving…And not only leaving but was going to live with a yankee, his brother who’s a former gang leader and a little girl that seems to be the most intelligent out of the lot…He would kill me, in fact I know that he’s already going to kill me for staying out all night…”

“Kazu…Please…” Jun said, acting braver than him and closing the distance between their hands and holding it gently until Nino pulled it away

“No…I can’t…” he said shaking his head and wishing that he hadn’t when dizziness and sickness washed over him causing another round of throbbing in the eyes. His face went white but he blinked it away keeping his gaze on Jun’s face.

“But you want to?” Jun asked with just the trace of a smirk and a ‘yes’ was half way out of his mouth before he managed to force it away. He barely knew Jun or Masaki but he could feel the atmosphere of this house and for some reason he could feel that he would be happy here but that wasn’t his role. He had to do everything that his father hadn’t been able to.

“No…What I want doesn’t matter…” He said pushing those thoughts away and Jun sighed getting up and pacing around a few times as he scraped his fingers through his hair and staring at him with a frown that caused Nino to flinch

“Kazu…When you go home, what are you going to tell your dad? Like you said he is going to beat you and yes maybe this time you’ll end up in hospital or even killed…Or you can stay here… And me Nii-chan and will look after you…”

“Are you really that much on an idiot…Or that naïve? If I stayed here I would bring nothing but troubles for you and him…Because that’s all I do…bring trouble…” Nino mumbled pulling at the faded bed sheets that covered his knees and he heard Jun give another sigh and then a swear before giving a growl and snapping

“Those aren’t your words, Kazu…”

“And the reason that you think that you know me so well is?” Nino muttered sarcastically “You’ve seen me around school and in a club, you forced me into a twisted relationship with you when there weren’t even any pictures left…My life was going along just fine…”

“Fine…” Jun repeated his tone scoffing and Nino hissed as his skin prickled with indignation “I’m sorry sweetheart but your life was nowhere near ‘fine’…If fine was Japan then your life was on the moon that’s how ‘fine’ it is…”

“What do you know about it?” Nino snapped angrily his arms folding across his chest as his eyes narrowed.

“I know because I was you…I was you until Nii-chan asked me to come and live here…” Jun told him and Nino tucked his knees up to his chest hugging them tightly as he tried to hold onto the anger.

“Well I don’t have a big brother that could come along and save me…”

“No…But you’ve got me and I’m offering to do just that…” Jun muttered and Nino barked out a laugh

“You’re the same age as me, what are you going to do against my father?”

“It’s not just me…There’s nii-chan, he…Knows people…”

“What…You want to off me father?” Nino asked refusing to acknowledge the small bubble of hope that coloured his voice

“Yes…” Jun answered his voice deathly quiet and Nino shivered his mouth falling open “But I was thinking we should try it legally first my brother is an easy guy to like and he’s worked in a lot of places and he has friends that would be willing to help you…”

“J…”

“You were going to end up in a grave before you were 20 either from an STD or because that stupid bully that you call father was going to kill you…” Jun said and Nino wished that he sounded angry, if he sounded angry he could have fought back but he didn’t, he actually sounded concerned and that was Nino’s undoing. Fat tears filled his eyes and then slowly rolled down his cheeks one by one. His shoulders shook and he slowly started to rock backwards and forwards. “Kazu…I didn’t mean…Shit I’m sorry…”

“…No…You’re…Right…” Nino whispered his voice almost disappearing as he stared at the wall, almost smiling at the scruffy, bright crayon picture on the far wall. “And that’s the reason…I wanted to…I mean I…Hoped…”

“You wanted to die…You did that because you wanted to die, I know…” Jun finished for him, pushing his legs apart and coming to kneel in between them. Nino stared at him as Jun reached up and cupped both of his cheeks “But…I’m an irritating git and I stepped in…”

“…You haven’t managed to save me yet…” Nino joked, awkwardly trying to relay on his natural bratty nature to pull him through as he tried to turn his face away knowing that his breath had to be pretty nasty but Jun held him fast their eyes locked together.

“No but I swear I’m going to…” Jun promised and Nino’s breathing hitched as the words hammered into his heart and almost took root there.

“Why…? Why is it so important...To you?” He asked and Jun grinned and his dark brown eyes started flashing a little.

“Because as much as you’re a cocky little brat I wouldn’t mind dating you…For real…” Jun answered coming up to stroke his hair out of his face “And I think you might let me if I save you…Otherwise why would you ever trust somebody like me?”

“…And what if I really am like my dad said and I’m not worth the trouble?” Nino said, all the fight leaving him as he looked down at the teenager who seemed to be so much older and wiser than him at this moment and he really wanted to just trust him.

“I think I’ll get to decide that…Please stare here and let me try to save you…No let me help you save yourself…”

The way Jun was saying it, it sounded so easy like he really could just stay here and forget all of his problems. It sounded so tempting so perfect and he was weak, his head throbbing with pain his heart aching with fear and the need for the protection Jun was offering.

“…Yes…”
