“That depends…You haven’t told much about being mated with a siren…” Nino answered softly as his hand moved over the four eggs under the lukewarm water “Do I have to do anything?”
“Other than be with me and love our kits? No not really...” Jun answered but Nino could tell that the siren tensed and his beautiful blue eyes flashed a little. The happy fog that had been in his mind the whole time that he had been on board the Kataigida wasn’t there at the moment and Nino was determined that he was going to make the most of it.
“So what were you almost going to tell me on the boat?” He asked and Jun sighed pulling off his knee high boots and dipping his feet into the water.
“I…I am going to be very over protective towards you and our kits until they are considered independents…” He sighed brushing his fingers through his hair. “I can’t help it, you’re my mate and the second father to my kits, if anybody hurt you or them I would act first and then I might think about it afterwards”
“What…” Nino gasped his heart pounding as he took in those words were said so simply and he reached out his free hand to grip at his lover.
“I told you I can’t help it…Instinct will take over…You’re the spark that gave the kits life…” The siren shrugged and Nino tried really hard not to think about that sentence and how stupid it obviously was. It took two to make a baby or four in their case
“So… Is that why my brain was all rose tinted and foggy while we were on the boat?” He asked and Jun nodded rubbing his chin a looking a little guilty.
“I… we were in close connect with rivals…My song went into overdrive, I’m sorry, now that we’re alone with just the kits it should calm down…” Jun gave a sigh and splashed the water with his feet looking like he would very much like to dive in and sit at the bottom of the pool for a bit “This whole having kits and raising them in a heavily human place isn’t done…Normally sirens and their mates they stay on the islands they stay away from people but after watching you for a while I suspected that you wouldn’t like that, so I broke away from my family to be with you…”
“You what…? I bet they loved the idea of that…” Nino mumbled thinking back to the beautiful almost surreal family that he had seen when they came to collect Jun as a child.
“They…Were concerned…” The siren nodded with a small smile that didn’t quite reach his blue eyes “But they accepted it…Well they had no choice really since I had already marked you as mine…”
“Geez, thanks for that by the way…” Nino laughed rolling his eyes and stroking the mark on his chest. Jun flashed him an apologetic smile that Nino thought looked just like a smug smirk. “So…Why not just come up to me and date me like a normal person…Why take me back to your lair and force me to fertilise your eggs?”
“I had prepared this house and when you…Came back to England I was going to let you remember and court you properly but…Um I came into maturity and the eggs needed to be laid and fertilised…” Jun was a little sheepish now, his cheeks were flushed “…I knew I should have done this properly but…Time played a big part…”
“Why not come to me before?” Nino asked and Jun fixed him with a stare and then a slow shrug his eyes flicking down to the eggs that Nino was still stroking.
“I was working to set this up and then you were trying to get yourself killed…” He muttered anger flashing across his face as he clicked his tongue and Nino laughed at the obvious jealously and he leaned towards him.
“So…Why did you mark me…When you were just a kid…What if you wanted somebody else…”
“Like I said you were compatible…It’s not just because you like men, though that was a very great start…It was more compatibility for the best chance at offspring, since I like my own gender there’s a lot to take into account and when you meet someone you’re compatible with you act…Sexual desire and love comes after what’s best for reproduction for sirens…” Jun shrugged and Nino decided that he would have to figure this out properly at some point but he could at least understand that explanation for now. “So you haven’t answered me…Are you okay with being a Siren’s mate?” Jun asked nudging his arm. Nino lifted an eye brow looking him over as he let out a hum
“Doesn’t look like I have much of a choice…But being a gentleman of leisure is going to be a hard role to fill…” He laughed a warm glow spreading up his spine and all further questioning was cut off as Jun wrapped his arms around him and pulled him down into the water.
“Do you trust me Kazu?” Jun asked with a whisper and Nino followed his gaze to the dark spot of water and he panicked wondering how deep the pool was.
“Yes…” He nodded his heart pounding against his ribs gripping the sirens hand tightly and Jun smiled pulling him forwards until they dived into the deeper part of the pool his head completely submerged in the water that got colder as the went deeper and deeper into the water. Nino panicked and grew terrified the further down they went.
“Open your eyes…” e heard Jun saying in his mind and Nino wished that he could hiss at him to shut up. Here under the water he could hear the songs of his kits even more clearly and it was mingling with Jun’s sounding like crystal clear bells over the rush of the water against his ears “You said you trusted me…So open your eyes…”
Nino did his best slowly pulling one eye open and would have gasped if he hadn’t remembered that he was underwater. He wrenched his second eye open staring down at the bottom of the pool. Jewels and gold shone like stars against the rocky bottom. Nino kicked his feet his free hand moving around too keep him a float his finger tickled as they moved through the water.
“It’s beautiful, ne?” Jun said his song sounding like a laugh and Nino nodded the best he could against the pressure of the water. “Okay…Look at me…”
Nino turned slowly against the weight of the water; he could already feel himself needing to breathe his lungs protesting with the fight they were having as he stopped himself from sucking in the water. He blinked when he saw that Jun’s hands were covered in his marbled scales and on his neck, just below his ears, slits had been formed and Nino guessed that that was how he breathed.
“Do I frighten you?” Jun asked but Nino shook his head feeling light headed now and Jun smiled tugging him up against his body and pressing their lips together. Jun breathed into his mouth and Nino felt his lungs relax as they took in the much needed oxygen. The songs of the babies got louder and more urgent and Jun gave a chuckle. The siren kicked his legs and soon they were moving quickly to the surface.
Nino choked as the broke the surface and he took in proper gulps of oxygen next to him Jun was smiling at him his deep blue eyes looking better than any jewel.
“What…Was wrong?” Nino asked with small breaths as they swam to the eggs slowly. The eggs hums calmed as they reached their nest and Nino ran his fingers over them.
“The Kits can tell that you’re human, they could tell that you needed to breathe…” Jun answered in a bored sounding drawl but Nino could tell by the way his song was buzzing he was happy. Nino let out a strangled hum of happiness himself and giggled with there was five answering hums. Yes, so far he was very happy being mated to a siren.
