Nino watched with growing excitement and happiness as the land got closer and closer. The wind was his face cutting at his cheeks and eyes but he wasn’t bothered he couldn’t keep his eyes away from the dark land swearing that he would never leave it again. He couldn’t be sure what his siren lover would think about that after all wouldn’t Jun need to be near the ocean? He thought and then there were their babies. Well if they needed to be with water they could live near the docks.
“What are you thinking about?” Jun asked sliding up behind him and breathing in his ear and Nino sighed as the happy warm cloud taking away the worry from his mind easily.
“Hmm…You…And where are we’re going to live?”
“I have a house…I told you, I will take care of you and our Ki-babies…” Jun told him kissing his cheek and Nino sighed again, leaning against his chest aware that they were being watched but deciding not to let it get him worried. The crew after all were obviously used to the captain and the doctor.
“Ki..?” He wondered and Jun chuckled kissing the top of his head
“Kits…” Jun clarified and Nino thought that it was a very cute way to say babies. They stayed that way until everything started happening at once as the sailed towards the dock. Jun pulled away from him when Sakurai barked an order at him. Nino was about to head back to Jun’s cabin to sort out his things when the hyper doctor caught his arm and held it tightly waving his flask of apple whisky around
“Ninomiya-san…Glad to be home?” He asked and Nino nodded “Aye with the sickness of the sea its best to be on dry land ne?”
“Yes, I fully mean to stay on dry land for the rest of my life…” Nino agreed readily taking a swig of the whisky and almost choking on it. Aiba giggled loudly accepting the flask back and flashing him a knowing smile
“I thought that you have found something worthy of fighting the sickness of the sea…” he said and Nino’s felt his blood running cold as his skin prickled.
“…You…Saw…?” He squeaked pretending that he didn’t answer and Aiba wiggled his eyebrows in a way that made them look like they were a separate entity from his face.
“…I was just coming to check on you but…You looked like you were having fun so ” Aiba giggled “But then I guess since this is Jun’s last voyage with us you’d see more of him if you stayed on land ne?”
“Yeah…” Nino answered his cheeks flushing a little taking another, smaller, swig of the whisky until there was another barked order from Sakurai and Aiba leapt to attention with a huge grin on his face. The doctor gave him a wink stuffing his drink into his pocket and running off to follow whatever order Sakurai had given. Nino sighed and hurried to the cabin.
The eggs almost buzzed as he entered and Nino wondered if they could tell that he was there. He went to the chest and opened it carefully the music getting louder humming under his breath wishing that he could sing the way Jun did to reassure them.
“Everything okay…?” Jun asked coming into the cabin and Nino nodded pulling his hand away from the four pearls like he had been burned.
“I…They…Um…” He whispered his cheeks flushing and Jun smiled his head cocking to one side.
“They were calling to you…They wanted your attention and you gave it to them…” He said lightly. “You’re going to spoil them…”
“…So it’s okay if I touch them?” Nino asked breathing a sigh of relief his hand going straight back down to the orbs his fingers brushing over the over the smooth warm shells
“You’re their other father…So course it is…But if anybody else touched them I’d break their hands…” Jun muttered darkly his teeth gnashing together a little as his eyes blazed
“It would be a bad thing for someone else to touch them?” Nino asked loving they had four distinct tones to their songs.
“Yes…A very bad thing…Nino, there are things that we need to talk about but we can do that later…” Jun said catching Nino as the ship jolted forwards buffing against the walls of the dock “For now we should get home and get rested…”
“What will happen to the crew…Will they remember you…Us?” Nino asked as he gave the eggs one last stroke before closing the lid of the chest.
“Yes…It’s better than keeping messing with memories…” Jun shrugged filling a small brown leather satchel. “Everything should be fine…”
“…So now we just go…” Nino wondered walking over to him and stroking his hands up and down the sirens stomach his head fuzzy and pink again.
“Go home and enjoy our lives together with our babies…” Jun said wrapping his arms around his shoulders and holding him, his fingers moving up and down his spine.
“Kits…” Nino corrected happily resting his head on Jun’s chest listening to his heartbeat. His life was nothing like he could have imagined but he was happy very happy.
They left the Kataigida just after the first wave of sailors after Jun had arranged transportation. He took his small satchel, a large oak chest that the captain gave him as a thank-you for ‘years of service’ and the driftwood chest with their babies. The oak chest that Nino guessed was full of coins, jewels and other expensive items was placed on the roof of a sleek black carriage with deep red velvet curtains while the driftwood one was placed into the middle by a surly looking driver. Nino had never been in a carriage like this with plush seats and sleek wood and Nino wondered how Jun had the money to arrange all of this.
The carriage rolled through the streets out of the dock and out of the poor area, through the market and then out of the city into the expensive area with the large houses and the big gardens. The carriage stopped outside of large red bricked building at that looked brand new the driver opened the door for them and Jun helped him out.
“This…Is yours?” Nino asked the siren in amazement Jun nodded without looking up at the building his eyes too focused on the chest that contained their eggs which was being taken out of the carriage carefully by the driver.
“Yes…”
“Wow…It’s beautiful…How did you…?” Nino breathed his feet crunching on the chipped pebbles as they walked to the dark brown wood with shiny brass fixtures and a stained glass window.
“I brought it…For you and our kits…” was the sirens answer to the half-finished question unlocking the door and pushing it open. Nino broke away from Jun as soon as the door opened and ran around the house unable to believe that he would be living there. The house was amazing, three stories with an attic room for a maid and cook. Good solid furniture was included and Nino knew that it would take days for him to fully explore. There was a type of pond in the basement. There was rocks and seaweed growing around and Nino was reminded of the cave that they had made their babies in.
“How…Did you afford all this?” Nino asked with a whisper as Jun came up behind him with the chest of eggs. Jun didn’t answer him for a while. Bending down and carefully placing the eggs into a nest of seaweed in the shallow area of the pool
“I’m a siren…And a pirate” Jun said wiping his hands and then smugly his arms folding across his chest “do you know how many doubloons and gold pieces have sank to the bottom of the ocean…?”
“Not really” Nino answered truthfully kneeling down beside the eggs and looking out over the pool.
“Well it’s a lot…And I’ve been busy collecting it over the years…” Jun shrugged sitting down behind him and tugging him against his chest “So are you okay with being mated with a siren?”
