“And then we saw deer!” Kazu gasped to his father and Jun found himself blushing to the roots of his hair as he looked down at the meal in front of him well aware that his entire family was staring at them. He didn’t mind so much that Kazu was talking about the deer and fawn, it had been an incredible moment but that he had also included their kiss in his retelling. “It was so cute!”

“It sounds that way…” The king chuckled sipping at his wine and Jun did the same “…It has been a long time since I have seen deer in the gardens…I saw it often when I was at Jun’s castle…There is a herd of them that live there, do you remember, my darling?”

“Of course I remember; husband I haven’t lost my mind yet…” His mother quipped from the other side of the long table where she had been talking to Kazuko and Thomas who had been encouraged to join them for the winter festival at Kazu’s insistence. Jun had found that, like himself, his husband was a firm favourite of his father and Ohno had a great deal of difficulty in refusing him anything that he might like and in turn Kazu was enjoying the fatherly affection. At this very moment Kazu was sitting on his father’s left side, a spot normally reserved for his brother Jonah, and it had been his spot for the past week.

“I never thought that you had, I was merely remembering myself...If it is acceptable maybe next year we will take a holiday…”

“Are trying to impose on our children?” Aurora asked with a slight lift to her eyebrows and Ohno gave a chuckle his cheeks flushing just a little, though Jun supposed that that may have had a lot to do with the amount of alcohol that he had consumed with his meal. They had all been had been enjoying the fine festival wine even Kazu which was probably why he hadn’t been so embarrassed to talk about their kiss. Jun was glad that neither of his brothers had called his husband up on it but he supposed that even they were happy to see Kazu speaking so freely in front of them all.

“It’s not imposing if they say that I can visit…” Ohno pointed out slowly flashing both Jun and Kazu a hopefully little smile which had his eyebrows wiggling around in his face and Jun chuckled knowing that he would be more than happy to invite any members of his family that wanted to come but it wasn’t his place to say. As the more submissive partner, basically the wife, in their relationship it was Kazu’s role to accept visitors and arrange parties. Of course he was sure that they wouldn’t live with the outdated roles but he wanted Kazu to have the control over their home.

“It is imposing when you force the issue…”

“I don’t mind! I would be happy if you were to come! We could play chess!” Kazu beamed happily his hand holding onto the near empty goblet of wine. Jun smiled at his lover but discreetly pushed a glass of water in his direction not wanting him to dehydrate.

“Of course…It will be many days until I can find somebody to make a game interesting…” His father sighed mournfully and Jun felt a jump in his heart remembering all of the lessons that Kazu had given him and his declaration the night before that he was ready for a real match against his father. He was still sure that he was going to lose but he was desperate to give his father a decent match.

“Speaking of chess…May we have a game father? After dinner?”

“I would be glad to…”
